Canadian Model Forests Contribute to Envirothon
Envirothon are Olympic style competitions designed for high school students to educate them about the natural environment. Through this program, students evolve from simple environmental awareness to active stewardship. Intended to encourage high school students to become interested in environmental issues, the concept quickly grew in popularity and by 1988 the first official competition was held. Since its creation, the concept hasn’t changed drastically; it is still a hands-on outdoor competition designed to challenge and test each student’s knowledge of soils, aquatic ecology, forestry, wildlife, and current environmental issues.
