Local Level Indicators
Since 1997, each Model
Forest has been involved in selecting, measuring and reporting on local level
indicators of sustainable forest management. Local level indicators (LLI),
developed to suit the local and regional conditions of each Model Forest,
provide a framework for monitoring changes and assessing the influence of many
components of sustainable forest management.
The Canadian Model
Forest Network published a User’s
Guide to Local Level Indicators so other organizations could benefit
from the experience of Model Forests in developing LLI. This publication
continues to be distributed to countries around the world and serves as a
demonstration of Canada’s leadership and vision in this field. In addition, an
on-line LLI database was
developed so that Model Forests can update their progress in refining and
reporting on LLI. The Canadian Model Forest Network continues its leading edge
LLI work through its Operational-Scale
Carbon Budget Model project.
