Home > Network Initiatives > Enhancing Canada’s International Reputation Enhancing Canada’s International ReputationGoal To encourage the establishment of international projects between Canadian model forests and international model forests and to participate in international networking relationships and partnerships. To enhance opportunities for international partnerships and trade. Description International partnerships and initiatives have allowed Canada’s model forest partners to share insight and experience on a global scale since the 1995 formation of the International Model Forest Network. Working relationships with international counterparts have brought a world of experience and innovation to Canadian model forests, and advanced sustainable forest management and community development both at home and beyond. The world-wide network of more than 50 model forests offers unique and exciting opportunities for collaboration and cooperation. The Canadian Model Forest Network has adopted this initiative to further engage international partners in forest management and community development, allowing Canada’s model forests to continue to share global perspectives in forest management and community development. This international engagement strategy will help develop an organized suite of bilateral arrangements between Canadian and international model forests, and guide the Canadian Model Forest Network in developing future agreements with international funding agencies. This initiative will build on established partnerships with model forests in Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Russia, Sweden, China and Cameroon. 2008 - 2009 Highlights The Canadian Model Forest Network conducted a survey of model forests’ activities and interests in the international arena which was used for the development of an international strategy. A formal agreement was initiated with Argentinean Model Forest Network. The Canadian Model Forest Network, together with the International Model Forest Network and Foothills Research Institute, co-hosted the Global Forum. Canadian Model Forest Network supported member collaborations with Chile and Cameroon Model Forests. |
