Canadian Model Forests

Prince Albert

The Prince Albert Model Forest, encompassing 367,000 hectares of boreal forest, is located north of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. The forest’s dominant tree species are aspen, balsam fir and black spruce. The Model Forest area includes a portion of Weyerhaeuser Canada’s Forest Management License Agreement, as well as Prince Albert National Park, Candle Lake Provincial Park and several Aboriginal communities. The need for continuous public involvement, especially Aboriginal participation, is valued because of the significant contributions of local and traditional knowledge to sustainable forest management. Prince Albert’s project areas include Aboriginal involvement, community outreach, tourism, urban forest management planning and wildlife.
