International Linkages

International Linkages

Canada pioneered the implementation of Model Forests in the early 1990s. Since then, many countries around the world have recognized the vision and value in this innovative concept, and have developed Model Forests of their own. There are now more than 35 Model Forests in existence or in development in 17 countries, and this number continues to grow. They are linked together through the International Model Forest Network (IMFN), whose Secretariat is housed at the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) in Ottawa, Canada.

Canadian Model Forests are collaborating with many international Model Forest sites on joint projects and initiatives, and regularly host foreign delegations keen to learn about establishing and maintaining a Model Forest. To find out more, please visit the links featured below or visit the IMFN Secretariat website.
